Ruteng’s Golo Curu
Golo Curu is a hilltop location in the city of Ruteng, the capital city of Manggarai district that’s popular with visitors due to the most amazing panoramic views you will perhaps ever witness! From the top of the hill, you can see Ruteng city in its full glory. If you’re there at night time, you will see city lights that make the city sparkle bright. During the day, you will see hundreds of hectares of rice fields spanning across every direction. It is the perfect spot for those who want to escape from the hustle and bustle.
It’s recommended to go early in the morning or even during sunset since these times the light will provide the most beautiful sceneries. At certain times, the surroundings of Ruteng can be obscured by clouds. Check the weather beforehand to make sure you go during the right time of the day. For those who want to pray or meditate, at the top of the hill, there is a Virgin Mary Cave where pilgrims and spiritualists gather. In the distance, you can also see three graveyards; one for Catholics, one for Chinese and in between these two, a graveyard for war heroes.
The hill is not that difficult to find. Just follow the road towards Reo. After you reach the bridge, turn left off the main road. There is an unpaved road behind the Santo Fransiskus Assisi church. The top of the hill is easily reachable by foot and will take about 20 minutes hike.
The hill is clean and well-kept. Please try to keep it this way.
Seen as a spiritual place, it is recommended that you refrain from public displays of affections while there.
