Hiking on Poco Ranaka
Poco Ranaka is located in West Manggarai. It’s part of a volcanic chain which is still active but this doesn’t stop tourists from hiking on it. Nowadays, it is an integrated part of the Ruteng Nature Park.
In 1987, a lava dome started growing which on the mountain, was aptly named Anak Ranaka, which means child of Ranaka. The reason why many tourists hike here is because of the chapel that is located on the summit. This is also a popular place of pilgrimage among the locals. The local government did build an asphalt road but the condition isn’t perfect.
Your hike to the peak will give you splendid views on the way up and if you love bird watching, then this activity is perfect for you. The trail will end at more than 2 kilometres above sea-level.
– Keep hydrated!
– Respect nature at all times
– Wear good hiking shoes
