Gili Lawa is an island located in the north east of Komodo island in the Komodo National Park. During the dry season, the island is parched and vegetation turns brown, but this all changes during the rainy season and the island is covered in verdant greens. The island is the perfect spot for some sunset trekking. When facing the west, you can see the Sanghiang Island, an active volcano island. When looking down, you can see the sandy beach with breathtaking surroundings. If you are into photography, this will be pretty close to heaven!
For those who want to spend the day on the island, no need to worry. The island is famous for its diving and snorkelling sites. There are two popular spots often frequented by visitors. First, Crystal Rock. Here you can find crystal clear water and rocky landscape, beautiful corals and a wide variety of fish. The second one is Castle Rock. This site is only suitable for people with more experience in diving since the current is strong. Manta rays and sharks are occasionally seen here.
If you wish to explore Gili Lawa it is best to arrange a tour guide since there are no locals on the island and it isn’t suitable to travel solo.
- Wear good hiking shoes
- Stay the night on a boat
