The East Nusa Tenggara Government (NTT) plans to completely shut down Komodo National Park for a year.
“The NTT government will reorganize and improve the Komodo National Park so that it can further sustain Komodo habitats. We plan to close the park for an entire year,” NTT Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat said in Kupang on Friday (18/1).
Viktor then also said, “The number of Komodo dragons are not as plentiful as they used to be because the population of deer, which are their main food, continues to decline following rampant deer theft in the region.”
The plan was also made because the habitats of Komodo dragons in West Manggarai regency have shrunk. The governor also said that the decision is made to avoid the dragons from preying one another in order to survive.
However, the government of NTT still not specifying the date and time the plan will be executed.
