Batik Air ID 6548 underwent an emergency landing in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara on Sunday (11/17) when the Pilot-In-Command flying the aeroplane began suffering from head pains and dizziness, CNBC reports. All seven crew members and 148 passengers landed safely. The pilot was taken to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment.
A Corporate Communications representative of Batik Air, Danang Mandala Prihantoro said that the aircraft had undergone all required pre-flight checks and all crew members underwent necessary medical tests.
“Batik Air ID 6548 carried 7 crew members and 148 passengers. Before departing, it had undergone a pre-flight check and all the crew members had undergone a medical examination – the aeroplane and its crew were fit to fly,” stated Danang.
The aeroplane departed from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on 9.12 AM and was expected to land at El Tari International Airport Kupang at 12.40 PM. Mid-flight, the Pilot-in-Command began suffering from head pains, dizziness and general weakness, which caused the co-pilot to take over and perform the emergency landing.
The co-pilot and members of the crew worked seamlessly together in accordance to the standard operating procedures to ensure a safe landing for all. The situation was then informed to the authorities.
