We’ve written about Easter in Larantuka, East Flores, Indonesia plenty of times before, and what an amazing experience it is for the thousands who travel there every year to showcase their devotion and passion to their religion. Tourists coming along for the ride would be overwhelmed by such a unique cultural occurrence, one that they will never forget in all the years to come.

To further elaborate on the uniqueness of Good Friday and Easter as celebrated in this otherwise quiet and hilly fishing town located at the very tip of the eastern end of Flores, we found an interesting article written by Brigid Delaney as featured in The Guardian.com as she talks about her extensive and completely immersive recent Good Friday experience in Larantuka, East Flores, Indonesia.

Before heading to Flores in eastern Indonesia for an Easter pilgrimage, I didn’t quite know what to expect. Would it be the blood and gore of a Filipino Good Friday stations of the cross with real crucifixions? Or would it include wildcard elements of Indonesia’s animistic past?
Or would it be like milder Easter celebrations of my Australian Catholic youth – where the tallest boy in the class dressed like Jesus and dragged a cross that we’d made in woodwork around the town streets?
A look at the itinerary filled my heart with terror. There was so much churchgoing that at first I thought there had been some mistake.
