Rote’s Most Popular Beaches
Rote Island or Pulau Rote is well known as one of the most culturally rich islands in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). It is a world-famous surfing and diving destination. In addition, Rote Island is also famous for its pristine untouched lands, beaches and fantastic waves, making it a must-visit destination for nature and beach lovers.
While you’re in Rote, you must visit Nemberala Beach. This white sandy beach has large waves and is a favourite amongst surfers. In fact, this beach owes its rise to fame to surfers who came to ride its challenging barrels. For those who do not want to surf, you can chill and relax or sunbathe on the beach.
The second one is Tiang Bendera Beach. It’s called Tiang Bendera (flagpole) because the beach is the location to an old monument from the time of the Dutch colonialism. Here on this monument, there is a flagpole, and therefore, the name of the beach. Come by for a swim and a stroll, and watch the waves crash onto the large outcrop of corals that jut out from above the sea water.
Tolanamon Beach is another popular beach in Rote. Located in South Rote, the beach is also called Virgin Beach. As per its name, Tolanamon or Virgin Beach is extremely quiet, clean and rarely visited by tourists. You’ll feel like you’re on your own private island when you visit!
