Coming Soon – The Biggest Observatorium in Southeast Asia
The biggest observatorium in Southeast Asia will be built in Timau, Kupang Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur. The Government plans to make the observatorium a tourists’ destination as well as a technology and research centre of astronomy. The idea was announced in October 2017 and target completion is set to be in the year 2020.
The observatorium will house the most advanced telescope in the region. In addition to state-of-the-art equipment, the observatorium is also set amidst lush jungles overlooking breathtaking Timau Mountains – therefore, an ideal venue for both nature and astronomy lovers.
The Timau area in Kupang is known as untouched area, with clear skies suitable for sky-gazing. Thanks to its prime location near the equator, experts have declared the area as a prime location for astronomy observation.
The development of Timau Observatorium is currently still in the planning stages.
