BMKG Issues High Wave Early Warning December 23-25, Beware of This Region

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) again issued high-wave early warnings in a number of waters in Indonesia including the Sunda Strait.

This early warning starts on Sunday (12/23) until Tuesday (12/25), at 7.00 WIB.

“There is a pattern of low pressure of 1006 hPa in the northern Pacific Ocean of Halmahera. Wind patterns generally move from northwest to northwest in the northern part of Indonesia with wind speeds ranging from 5-20 knots, while in the south Indonesia moves from the southwest – northwest with wind speeds ranging from 5-25 knots, “said BMKG pilot Gatot Defriyantoro through a press release received.

Gatot said that the highest wind speed was observed in the western Java Sea, Sulawesi Sea, and the waters north of Halmahera Papua.

“This condition results in an increase in wave height in these areas,” he explained further.

Gatot said waves with a height of 1.25 to 2.5 meters had the chance to occur in the waters north of Sabang, Sabang-Banda Aceh waters, western waters of Aceh, also in the western waters of Simeulue Island to the Mentawai Islands, Enggano-Bengkulu waters, western waters of Lampung, Samudera West Indies Sumatra and southern Sunda Strait.

In addition, in the southern waters of Java to Sumba Island, Bali Strait to Lombok Strait and the southern Alas Strait, Sawu Island waters to Rote Kupang Island, South Timor Sea NTT, Sawu sea to Ombai strait, south Flores waters, southern Java Ocean, NTT, the North Natuna Sea.

High wave potential also occurs in the northern waters of the Anambas archipelago to the Natuna islands, western Java sea, Flores sea, Baubau island waters to the Wakatobi islands, the western Banda Sea, the southern waters of the Sermata Islands to the Tanimbar islands, the western Arafuru sea, the Sulawesi sea, North Sulawesi waters, Sangihe Islands waters to the Talaud Islands.

Manado Bitung waters, North Maluku sea, Halmahera waters, Halmahera sea, North West Papua waters to Papua and the Pacific Ocean north of Halmahera to Papua are also likely to face high waves.

In addition to high-wave early warning until Tuesday, the BMKG also appealed to the community and ships carrying out activities on the west coast of Sumatra, south of Java, Bali, NTB, NTT, and other regions especially those listed in the Early Warning list to pay attention to these risks.

“Please note the high risk of shipping safety. For fishing boats (wind speeds of more than 15 knots and wave height above 1.25 m), barges (wind speeds of more than 16 knots and wave height above 1.5 m), Ferry boats (speed winds of more than 21 knots and wave height above 2.5 m), large vessels such as cargo ships or cruise ships (wind speeds of more than 27 knots and wave height above 4.0 m), “wrote BMKG.
